Should battens be attached through shingles to a plywood roof deck or should they be fastened to the rafters? With what type of fasteners? Should the top row of screws in the roofing panels be below the ridge cap? Where should the battens be located to attach the ridge cap?

Whats the framing spacing? The reality is that you should try to hit the framing whenever possible but it should be fastened in between as well. You want attachment points to the framing and the decking in between.

Standard deck screws work well.
