Hi!
I have a low pitch 4/12 gable roof that is made of shingle around 15 years old. There are 3 peak vents, there are no ridge vents. We have to redo our plumbing vents as well.
The upper chimney valley seems to be leaking, perhaps the installer didn't put the copper far enough up the roof.
Interested to know your thoughts on new metal roof installation over the shingles and how we should go about increasing airflow from such a low pitch roof.
Was also interested if it is possible to change the pitch of the roof slightly to encourage rain, snow and debris to move as I am constantly up there blowing leaves, shoveling snow and branches from it.

You may find the metal roof simply sheds debris better but certainly thing s can still lay on it as well. You should be able to install most metal roofs over your existing single layer of shingles. The most difficult thing to install over them would likely be a standing seam panel with no strengthening striations in the flats of the panels. As far as ventilation ... it requires both intake and exhaust vents and you want those to be balanced or slightly heavier on intake. Most metal roofs do have ridge vent options, to replace your existing vents. A great source of information on attic ventilation is www.airvent.com
