Oil Canning

Looking for information on a roof recently installed on a home we are building in West Nyack, NY. There appears to be excessive oil-canning. See attached image. Any help would be appreciated.

I also have excessive oil canning on my new roof. However, this is a problem out of the box. When we placed a new panel on the lawn or a flat spot on the concrete driveway it has the same pattern. The ripple repeats every 30" or so. The contractor and local building supply house are not happy. The manufacturer says "Whirlwind has determined the panels were produced correctly and within spec" and "There are no industry standards for what is excessive oil canning". They are blaming the issue on some bowing of the roof panels even though the oil canning happens everywhere, even at the gables where the roof is straight, "It appears areas of existing roof were not on a level".

Whirlwind is correct there is no industry standard. In fact, the industry states that oilcanning is not cause for rejection. You may want to make sure that the roof is straight; then use 1" backer rod under the center part of the panel to put a bow across the flat of the panel. That may eliminate the visual effects of oilcanning.
