Ridge Vent Quandry

My roofing contractor was contracted to install a standing seam metal roof. The contract states he will replace all existing vents and pipes. We had three attic vents, that the contractor said were not up to code, and said he had already installed the ridge vent that would vent three inches per foot. I was weary to take his word for the ridge vents and went into the attic to see the evidence (after all they were supposed to vent the attic). I took pictures of the ridge from the inside of the attic and I see no ventilation. both pieces of ridge cap are butted firmly against each other. The contractor insists that no further ventilation is required. The attic gets very hot and I don't see any ventalation.
