Hi --
Have an unheated/uninsulated two stall garage in NH with 25 year old shingles. Planning on putting on a metal corrugated roofing over it.. The contractor I spoke with says he puts on underlayment typically and then the metal.. Is this fine or should I make sure there's underlayment and then wood strapping before the metal goes on? The roof is in relatively good shape at this point. It's not wavy or anything yet..Thanks, J

Whereas I normally am not a huge fan of battens, I think I'd use them in this case. Direct contact between the metal and the roof deck (even with underlayment and shingles in between) will drop the roof deck temperature and could make it prone to creating condensation on the underside.
