Is it necessary to install a double layer of underlayment on a roof deck (under battens) when installing metal roofing on a low slope roof? Or will a single layer work?

Always adhere to local building code as well as the specifications of the metal roofing manufacturer and the underlayment supplier. This would be in regards to minimum pitch, underlayment, and everything else. Generally, I'd not think you need a second layer but it depends on the exact circumstances and, again, I would refer back to local building code and product specifications.
