Hello I am in the process of buying a building that currently has a 30 year old rubber membrane roof. It leaks. The roof has a slight pitch maybe 1/12. I’m considering putting a steel roof on it. Is it possible to put the steel directly on top of the rubber membrane without doing like 2 x 4 framing.

Due to the low pitch, the only metal option will be a mechanically seamed standing seam. There are options for going over the existing. This sort of work is usually done by a commercial roofing contractor or a fairly large metal specialist.
