For any given house size which is cheaper to install, metal shingles or standing seam?
How are metal shingles installed? Nails, screws, or clips?
Do metal shingles create a thermal break between the metal and the roofing deck?
Are there any pros/cons of using metal shingles rather than standing seam?

Both types of metal roofing can make a great roof. I'd say that, in steel, metal shingles may be slightly more than standing seam but in aluminum, often the shingles are less. Both types of products have similar testing and code listings.
Most metal shingles have little direct contact between the metal and the roof deck. This creates an integral thermal break for energy efficiency and sound attenuation.
Some standing seam products are also lifted off the deck by their clips, or can be installed on battens or over an entangled mesh product for a thermal break.
Metal shingles can usually be attached with nails or screws.
I think a lot of the decision comes down to aesthetics and the look you'd like for your home and neighborhood. Metal shingles can be a bit more forgiving of uneven roof decks and also can mask minor indentations better.
