I'm in the process of installing a standing seam roof on my home. After consulting several local installers the decision was made to leave the existing shingles, which are in good shape, and then install 1/4 inch foam underlayment with a reflective backing directly under the metal (reflective side up). No purlins are being used. And of course removing the original drip edge and installing the starters under the shingles to maintain the vapor barrier. This seems to be normal practice in this area. All was going well until an unexpected downpour caught me without ridge cap installed. The four inch gap at the ridge was exposed to rain for several hours. This would have allowed a fair amount of water to migrate under the foam board, some may have even gone between the underlayment and metal. Can you tell me how much of a problem this will be? I realize the moisture is technically trapped, but I would think gravity and heat would pull it down to the drip edge over time. Thank you

What happened wasn't ideal but it will dry out and everything should be fine.
