I have a summer home in Maine with an existing very steep metal roof. When it rains it pours a lot of water onto my deck. I've been told by contractors I can't install gutters because while I'm away in the winter the snow will slide end tear the gutters off. Is this true and if not what type of gutter can I install? Any help would be appreciated.

Snow can always tear gutters off. My suggestion for metal roofs though is 6" gutters produced from .032" or .040" aluminum, mounted as high as possible on the fascia using facia brackets attached to every rafter tail.
