We are about to embark on a large renovation project, adding an addition and a wrap around porch. Our contractor is telling us we have to remove our existing metal roof because the existing 22 year old metal roof may crack when they add the new roofing????
I look forward to your reply
Thank you

It depends on what type of metal roof you have and also how the old and new will intersect. Can you email me photos of the current situation and explain how the old and new will join? [email protected]

Wondering same thing. Can you put vertical panels or metal shingles over existing metal shingles? Is there any benefit in doing so?

If there is only one layer of shingles and if the roof deck is in good shape, more heavily formed metal roofs like metal shingles and corrugated products can be installed over the old shingles along with a very of underlayment. Benefits include cost savings and protecting the environment from the burden of torn-off roofing materials in landfills.

But... metal shingles can be recycled.
The cheapest job, long term, is the one done right the first time.
