We just purchased a 12X12 shed/building to use as a home office. Initial plan was to drywall in a ceiling with insulation. My wife now would like to keep the vaulted look and has directed me to figure this out. Building has a metal roof on top of a polyurethane product screwed into 2x4 purlins. Roof appears to have a ridge vent/cap on top with gable vents on both ends - no suffit. Building will have AC and heat. Can we insulate directly against the polyurethane and is it possible to close off the gable vents without issues?

May I ask where you are located? Climate has a lot to do with the right assembly. Generally though I'd say you need a vapor barrier, which sounds difficult and/or ventilation. Feel free to call me this coming week at 1-800-543-8938 ext 201 and we can talk this through.

Thanks for your response. We are located in northern Kentucky with humid summers and moderately cold winters. I'll give you a call during the week. Thanks again!

Yes, let's talk. You definitely need some way of ensuring that warm moist air originating inside the structure does not reach the cold back side of the metal roof.
