I have a galvalume standing steam roof installed in 2011. About 3 years later 5 of the panels center front of the roof became discolored. In the following years I consulted with the house builder, the roof installer, and roof fabricator. Several dusted the surfaces and dismissed the discoloration as "dust" -easily removed. No one explained why and how this discoloration occurred.
The fabricator recommended leaving the panels alone to blend in over time.
Four years later I decided to try the cleaning the entire roof to get the panels to match. The fabricator said that was a sound approach and if done correctly would not void their warranty.
Finding a firm to bid this work was hard, but one tested his cleaning technique this past weekend. The technique worked but he discovered that the five panels in question were from a "different batch" than the rest of the roof and apparently weathered differently.
I am trying to get the bottom of this and need recognized experts:
to certify the differences between the panels' "metallurgy" and how that could cause the difference in weathering, and to suggest technical solutions to rectify the problem of a strong contrast in color between panels.
I will send a decent photo if you require.

Thanks. I assume this is a clear-coated Galvalume roof? I am not sure how the person coming to your house could have made a definitive determination. There are metal labs around the country that can do analysis but I am not sure they can get you the level of granularity you are seeking. Have you gotten the fabricator involved to the point of where they have identified their metal supplier?

Yes. U S steel made the metal and Berridge made and coated the panels. I agree that the only "data" I have is that side by side panels are different colors after cleaning.

Typically the clear coats wear away entirely within 5-7 years. I am really wondering if the difference isn't in the clear coat, not the actual metal.

I will look into your point with Berridge, but I wonder how two adjacent and identical panels with the same clear coating (I think you are about that) would have a different color when washed with the same equipment and fluids. I will try to send you a photo to illustrate. I have an error msg when I try. I will keep at it.

Hi Todd,
I managed to transmit that image to others as a gmail attachment. If you recommend another way of sending you a copy of panels at issue I will be glad to try them. Even USPS!
Sorry for the trouble, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

Based on visual observation, one is only "guessing" but I am happy to take a look. Hopefully Berridge can come inspect things in person again. You should be able to email me at [email protected]
