Good Morning, I'm glad we found your website because we are at the end of our rope. We built a new home on Marco Island FL. its about 5000 sq ft. on the water and looks stunning especially with with our metal roof. The problem is that when we moved in last July, we started hearing very loud popping noises coming from the roof, so loud at times we couldn't enjoy watching tv on our lanai. The noise coming from the roof definitely has to do with expansion, as soon as the sun beats on it the popping starts , and when sun goes behind a cloud its stops until it comes out from behind the cloud again. We had the contractor, manufacturer fabricator out to the home a number of times they were are all very helpful, Anyway, after a year they found out the roof clips were bad and the manufacturer agreed to put on a new roof, they tore off the old roof, no noise at all!! Put on a small section of the roof and let it sit for a few weeks and after a while the same popping noise again!! Now they are saying we can't have a metal roof because they don't know what's wrong so we have to use concrete tile, which we don't want. There are tons of metal roofs all over the area and all over florida!! What makes our house unique?? Anyway, any help, guidance, referrals to someone one in the area they can determine the cause of the noise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Richard

Thanks for choosing metal but I am sorry to hear about this problem. At this point, really, I have more questions than helpful statements. Any chance you could call me sometime at 1-800-543-8938 ext 201? Thanks!

Hi Todd, this is Richard from Marco Island. Just to refresh your memory on our roof. It’s an 18 inch panel aluminum roof silver in color, snap clad stainless steel clips. The underlayment is MTS. 32 gauge Aluminum and manufactured by Peterson. The roof was installed last may and started making popping sounds in July 2019. A section of the aluminum roof was taken off in March 2020 and there was no popping in that area. So we knew it wasn’t the structure. The manufacturer found that the clips were defective so they agreed to replace the entire roof. They removed roof and replaced a 12 x 32 section with new aluminum and new clips. The new section is still popping when sun id out or goes behind a cloud and comes back out. So at this time all the metal is off the roof except for the small section that they just put on. They took some of the panels off from the new section and their were the scraping marking on the panels and clips as shown the attached pictures. Our installer said these were not normal markings. The same marking were on our last roof panels as well. Any ideas??? Installer manufacturer and builder are both stumped. Thank you. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Richard

Something certainly appears to be off shape-wise or dimensionally with the clip or the panel. Petersen has a great team. Surely they have an engineer who can analyze the panel and the clips to determine the problem. I am sorry to hear this is ongoing.
