I recently bought a house that has an active leak along a vinyl siding wall and metal roof seam. It look like many bandaids have been applied. How do I fix this the right way?

A flashing is then installed that goes up the wall (I suggest new house wrap as well that comes out on top of the siding) and then the flash comes out and locks over probably a Z installed on the roof. Next, the siding is re-cut and re-installed. I hope this helps.

Or copy this URL: https://www.metalroofing.com/spirit/comment/25180/find/The house wrap should come down over the vertical leg of the flashing, but always behind the siding. If water gets through the siding (and it does / will), we want to make sure it ends up on the outside of the flashing. The Z Channels are to close off the edge of the roofing in essence. That really depends upon what profile of metal roofing you have though -- it may not be necessary with, say, an exposed fastener metal roof or a metal shingle, but would be necessary probably with standing seam.

Or copy this URL: https://www.metalroofing.com/spirit/comment/25203/find/The house wrap should be on the outside of the foam. Vinyl siding is pretty notorious for allowing some water through it. The house wrap will make sure that water drains safely down the wall and ends up on the outside of your flashing rather than behind it.
